Lexi Minetree, who stars as Elle Woods in the new Prime Video prequel series, revealed a deep and consistent connection to the world of Legally Blonde, particularly through the stage musical.
"Gay or European?" Minetree exclaimed, referencing one of her favorite songs from "Legally Blonde: The Musical." She shared that her appreciation for the musical began even before her casting, as she previously participated in a 24-hour production of the show in college, playing the role of Margot, one of Elle's close sorority sisters.
This connection to the Legally Blonde universe deepened during the filming of the series. Minetree recounted how the cast of "Elle" took a bonding trip to see a local community theater production of "Legally Blonde: The Musical" while filming Season 1 in British Columbia. The serendipitous timing of the musical's performance during their own filming added a special layer to the experience.
Co-star Gabrielle Policano, who plays Liz in the prequel, noted that a similar coincidence occurred again during the filming of Season 2. "And then again, in Season 2, there was a different production happening," Policano said. Minetree humorously responded, "Legally Blonde is in, baby, I guess," with co-star Chandler Kinney adding, "Everlasting."
The series aims to explore Elle Woods' formative years before she attended Harvard Law School, with each episode titled after a quote from the original Legally Blonde film. The cast and crew have embraced this homage, hoping to create equally memorable moments for viewers.
Minetree shared one of her favorite lines from the show, "You know, you really should make a habit of keeping a non-expired pen on your person at all times in the event of an anaphylactic emergency," which Elle says in Episode 6. She noted that the tongue-twister line was a frequent practice during filming, and she managed to deliver it flawlessly.
Policano and Kinney also chimed in with memorable lines from Season 1, referencing a scene involving "61 tampons" that ultimately coalesced into "one tampon rat king." The context for this amusing anecdote remains a surprise for viewers to discover within the series.
"Elle" Season 1 is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
