The first season of the Prime Video series Elle, a prequel to Legally Blonde, concluded with a significant shift for its protagonist. After initially deciding against a coveted internship at Cosmopolitan magazine to remain in Seattle with her new friends, Elle Woods discovers her mother has submitted her application without her knowledge, and she has been awarded the position.
This revelation comes after Elle's scathing essay, which critiqued Seattle in favor of Los Angeles, becomes known to her classmates at Rainier West. The essay, coupled with the revelation that Elle and Miles kissed the night Shannon's mother died, strains her relationships with friends like Liz, Miles, and Kimberly. Faced with alienation and a breach of trust from her mother, Elle confronts her.
Ultimately, Elle and her mother decide to return to Los Angeles. There, Elle quickly reintegrates into her life and begins working at Cosmopolitan. She is tasked with assisting the magazine's editor, Anna St. George, in preparing for the Golden Globes. Meanwhile, back in Seattle, the school experiences a shakeup following the exposure of corruption by Dean Wilson and Principal Anderson, leading to new interim leadership.
Elle's assertive approach at Cosmopolitan catches St. George's attention, leading to an opportunity to accompany her to the Golden Globes as an intern assistant. While reflecting on her progress, Elle experiences a pivotal moment when she witnesses a public confrontation involving Eva, stemming from a past incident that prompted the Woods family to move to the Pacific Northwest. This event solidifies Elle's belief that Los Angeles is their home, but Seattle is where they need to be at that moment.
Returning to Seattle, Elle and her mother reconcile with Shannon, who is leaving for Colorado. Despite traffic delays threatening their arrival at the school's winter formal informal, Elle makes it just in time for Liz's performance. The season finale culminates on the dance floor when Dustin confesses his feelings for Elle, and they share a kiss, observed by a visibly upset Miles. This sets up a potential love triangle for a future second season.
