Actor Edward Furlong, known for his role as John Connor in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," has canceled his scheduled appearance at Melbourne Comic Con due to unforeseen circumstances. The California-born actor was slated to appear at the event on Saturday and Sunday.
Metro Comic Con announced the cancellation on social media, stating that Furlong was unable to make his flight to Australia and that no alternative flight options could get him to Melbourne in time. The organizers conveyed that Furlong is "extremely disappointed" and was eager to meet his Australian fans, assuring them he plans to visit in the near future.
Fans who had booked meet-and-greets with Furlong are eligible for refunds. The cancellation led to immediate expressions of frustration from attendees in the comments section of the social media announcement. Some fans noted that a significant portion of their planned interactions had now been canceled.
Fans had reportedly spent up to $500 for opportunities to meet Furlong and "Terminator 2" co-star Linda Hamilton, who was still scheduled to attend the event. Hamilton, who played Furlong's on-screen mother, Sarah Connor, was expected to participate in a joint guest panel, professional photograph sessions, and an exclusive meet-and-greet with Furlong.
Furlong, who rose to fame at age 13 after starring alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1991 sci-fi classic, was promoted as a major draw for the convention. "Terminator 2" was celebrated for its groundbreaking visual effects and commercial success, solidifying Furlong's status as a rising young actor. He also starred in cult films such as "American History X" and "Detroit Rock City."
