Oscar nominee Ed Harris has expressed dissatisfaction with his role in the Paramount+ series "Dutton Ranch," stating he felt "misled" about the extent of his character's storyline. Harris, who signed on for two seasons, told Variety that he was initially told his character, Everett McKinney, would be one of the four main roles.

"Prior to signing on, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do — and that I was one of the four main characters," Harris said. "And that wasn’t really the case… I said, ‘I’m feeling underused and inconsequential,’ and they kind of went, ‘Oh.’"

Harris also shared frustration over a scene that was cut where he was meant to sing in a bar. He explained that he was told he would get to sing before signing on, but the scene was omitted. "The thing that really pissed me off, to tell ya the truth. One of the things they told me before I signed on, ‘Hey, you get to sing… in a bar.’ So there’s this scene in there … I’m talking to [Beth Dutton] at the bar, and [Rip Wheeler] comes in and says, ‘OK, Everett, come on, it’s your turn. I walk up to the mic, and they cut it. They cut the song out. I’m going, ‘Fuck you, people.’"

The actor stated the scene was cut because it was "too up for the dark ending of that episode," and he felt it was "reason enough to say I’m voiding my contract."

Despite these frustrations, Harris confirmed he is still slated to appear in Season 2. He was told his character would have a more significant role in the upcoming season. "As of now… yes. Harris revealed to Variety that he’s signed on for two seasons of Dutton Ranch and that he was told that his character ‘would have a little bit more to do’ in the second season."

The first season of "Dutton Ranch" consists of nine episodes, with the season finale airing on July 3, 2026. Season 2 is scheduled to begin filming in February 2027, with a potential premiere date in late 2027 or early 2028.
