Ed Gamble has revealed that his significant weight loss was primarily motivated by vanity, aiming to improve his appearance for television roles. At his heaviest, the comedian weighed 19 stone.

"I lost weight for a vain reason," Gamble, 40, told The Times. "At my heaviest, I thought, I'd like to lose weight before I go on this TV show, because I'd heard the camera adds 10lb and I thought, that is 10lb I cannot be adding."

He elaborated that after losing the weight, he secured a role playing a member of the royal family, a part he believes he might not have been considered for previously.

Gamble also detailed the ongoing challenges of living with type 1 diabetes, describing it as "like having a 24-hour job." He explained the constant need to monitor blood glucose levels, which can be affected by illness, weather, and other factors, leading to feelings of being "burnt out."

While the condition is genetic and not a result of his diet, it has impacted his relationship with food. Previously, Gamble shared with the Daily Mail that he tended to gain weight easily and enjoyed eating, often consuming large amounts of food in a single sitting. He described habits like buying lunch from multiple establishments and late-night fast food.

In addition to his personal health discussions, Gamble has been involved with hosting "The Traitors: Uncloaked" podcast and show during the latest season of "Celebrity Traitors." The recent finale of the BBC One series drew a large audience, with Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian 'Bash' Croft emerging as winners, each receiving £41,500 for their chosen charities.
