Paramount+ has officially renewed the hit series ‘Dutton Ranch’ for a second season, ahead of the broadcast of its eighth episode. The network also announced that Benjamin Cavell will serve as the new showrunner for the upcoming season. Cavell steps into the role after Chad Feehan departed the series three weeks prior to its premiere.
The series, a prequel to ‘Yellowstone,’ has achieved significant viewership and critical success. In the seven days following its debut, ‘Dutton Ranch’ amassed 12.9 million viewers globally, marking the largest launch for an original series in Paramount+ history. Its two-episode premiere on the Paramount Network on May 15 drew 2.9 million total viewers, becoming the biggest cable series premiere since 2023. The premiere telecast alone attracted 1.85 million viewers, ranking as the top cable entertainment telecast for both adults aged 18-49 and total viewers.
According to Nielsen, ‘Dutton Ranch’ was the number one streaming series for the week of May 11, based on average audience. The show also performed strongly on Paramount+ social channels.
"‘Dutton Ranch’ has resonated with audiences in a powerful way, building on the legacy of beloved characters, while establishing its own identity," said Matt Thunell, President of Paramount Television Studios. "We look forward to bringing fans more stories from these unforgettable characters in Season 2."
While an official premiere date for Season 2 has not yet been set, new episodes could potentially arrive in 2027 if production proceeds in a timely manner. Further details on the Season 2 timeline are expected following the Season 1 finale. The season finale concluded with a significant cliffhanger, leaving viewers anticipating the resolution of storylines involving character kidnappings and unresolved deaths.
Fans looking to revisit the first season can stream it on Paramount+. The streaming service offers two subscription plans: Essential, which costs $8.99 per month, and Premium, which includes Showtime titles and live CBS for $13.99 per month. A seven-day free trial is available for the Premium plan.
