The 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic has commenced, honoring actors Dustin Hoffman and Juliette Binoche.
Hoffman, a two-time Academy Award winner for his performances in “Kramer vs. Kramer” and “Rain Man,” is set to receive an award for his outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema on the festival's opening night. He will also present the 1967 film “The Graduate,” which garnered his first Oscar nomination.
Binoche, an Oscar recipient for best supporting actress in “The English Patient,” will be honored with the same award as Hoffman during the closing ceremony on July 11. The festival will screen three of her films: “Certified Copy” (2010), “Three Colors: Blue” (1993), and “In-I in Motion” (2025).
American cinematographer Robert Richardson, known for his collaborations with directors Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese, and Quentin Tarantino, is the third guest to be recognized. A three-time Oscar winner for best cinematography, Richardson will introduce his documentary portrait, “Robert Richardson: The White Devil,” on Saturday.
The festival, held in the western Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary, will feature 12 films competing for the Crystal Globe, the festival's top prize.
