Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 63, has been found guilty of orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting that resulted in the death of rapper Tupac Shakur. A Nevada jury delivered the verdict, which could lead to Davis spending the remainder of his life in prison.
The conviction marks a significant development in one of rap music's most enduring unsolved murder cases. Shakur was shot multiple times on September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas and died six days later. Davis, an uncle of Shakur's rival gang leader, was arrested in September 2023 after a decades-long investigation.
Prosecutors argued that Davis was present in the Cadillac from which the fatal shots were fired and that he played a key role in planning the attack. Davis himself had publicly admitted in interviews and in a memoir to being present and providing the firearm used in the shooting, though he maintained he did not pull the trigger.
The legal proceedings focused on piecing together the events of that night and establishing Davis's culpability in Shakur's death. The conviction is a culmination of extensive investigative efforts that sought to bring closure to the high-profile case.
