Dolly Parton made a rare social media appearance on Wednesday, nearly two months after canceling her Las Vegas residency due to health issues. The 80-year-old country music star posted a photo on Instagram with her 66-year-old sister, Rachel Parton George.
Parton, known for her signature blonde hair and glamorous makeup, wore a red gingham blouse, white pants, and high heels. The sisters were pictured in a backyard setting, decorated for the Fourth of July, with plates of barbecue ribs, corn on the cob, and lime slices. In the caption, Parton mentioned that she and Rachel prepared some of their favorite recipes to make the holiday "a little extra special." These recipes are featured in their 2024 cookbook, "Good Lookin' Cookin': A Year of Meals - A Lifetime of Family, Friends, and Food."
Fans commented on Parton's appearance, with many complimenting how "beautiful" and "good" she looked. This post comes after Parton revealed in May that she has been dealing with unspecified "health challenges."
Health Update and Canceled Residency
Parton had to cancel her planned Las Vegas residency after postponing it in September. She cited "health challenges" that require her to focus on recovery. In a recent health update, Parton explained that she has had ongoing kidney stone problems, and for the past three years, her immune and digestive systems have been "all out of whack" and need strengthening. She expressed optimism about her recovery, stating she is responding well to treatments and improving daily. However, she noted that it would take time before she is "up to stage performance level" because some medications cause dizziness, which is not conducive to performing with instruments while wearing high heels.
Parton also spoke about her need for recovery time after grieving the loss of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, who passed away in 2025. The couple had been together for over 50 years. She had previously missed her birthday concert at the Grand Ole Opry in January and a Dollywood announcement due to kidney stone complications and an infection that advised against travel.
Parton's first public appearance since confirming her health struggles was on June 24 at the opening of Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stop in Cornersville, Tennessee. She appeared happy and greeted fans, later taking the stage to express her pride in the new venture. She also made a playful remark about rival travel stop chains.
