Dolly Parton's co-stars from the 1989 film "Steel Magnolias" are honoring the late actress and singer, who died Tuesday at age 80. Julia Roberts, Sally Field, and Shirley MacLaine, who starred alongside Parton in the Herbert Ross-directed dramedy, shared their memories and condolences.

Roberts, 58, remembered Parton as "a magical and joyous human." In a statement to People, she said, "I hold knowing her as a treasure in my life. The sun has dimmed today."

Field, 79, posted a photo of the "Steel Magnolias" cast on Instagram, writing, "If there are truly angels on earth, then we have just lost one. Dolly Parton. There will never be another. I adored her with all my heart and will always cherish our time together. Forever. Rest in peace beautiful Dolly."

MacLaine, 92, shared a brief sentiment: "God sent her to us, and she has returned home."

In "Steel Magnolias," Field and Roberts played a mother-daughter pair, M'Lynn and Shelby Eatenton, respectively. Parton portrayed Truvy Jones, a hairdresser who becomes a central figure in the lives of the Southern women who lean on each other through various life events.

The ensemble cast also included Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, Tom Skerritt, and Sam Shepard.

Parton's death was confirmed by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, in an Instagram video. Seaver stated that Parton had been admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Friday for autoimmune and kidney problems. He described his aunt as someone who "lived in the light" and is now "in the arms of Jesus."

Parton, a celebrated musician with a career spanning six decades, was known for hits like "Jolene" and "9 to 5." Her passing comes after a period of health issues that led to the cancellation of several public appearances. She had recently spoken about plans for a new hotel and museum in Nashville, Tennessee.

Reflecting on her role in "Steel Magnolias" in a 2020 interview with Vanity Fair, Parton noted her connection to the character of Truvy, stating, "I understood 'cause I used to always do my mama's hair... I’m good with my hands. So I’d do good hair. So I felt like Truvy."
