Motown legend Diana Ross performed a newly written song for the crowd at the 35th Brighton and Hove Pride event this past weekend. The 82-year-old star, an LGBTQ+ icon, introduced the track as being written "especially for the occasion." The song featured lyrics such as "Joy, joy, joy, freedom, always be you," which Ross dedicated to the audience.
Ross's setlist included a career-spanning selection of her hits, such as "Chain Reaction," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," and "Stop! In the Name Of Love." Her 1980 song "I'm Coming Out" has long been recognized as an LGBTQ+ anthem.
Paul Kemp, the event's Pride managing director, described Ross as "iconic." He noted that the weekend's lineup, which also featured Saturday headliner Raye, presented "a generation of divas."
During her performance, Ross wore multiple glamorous outfits, including a silver sequinned gown with a white feather boa, a sparkly red dress with ruffles, and a neon yellow raincoat over black trousers and a top.
The event also saw a performance by the reunited British band Five, who performed their 1998 hit "Everybody Get Up" earlier in the evening.
