Demi Lovato said she “couldn’t be happier” for Selena Gomez after the former Disney star’s engagement to producer Benny Blanco.
Lovato, 33, made the remarks during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, praising Gomez and Blanco’s joint album I Said I Love You First, which was released in March. “Really, really great job. I love the songs on it,” Lovato told host Andy Cohen, singling out the track “Bluest Flame.” She added, “I just wish her the best.”
Gomez, 33, and Blancó, 37, announced their engagement in December 2024 when Gomez shared a photograph of her ring on Instagram and wrote that “forever begins now.” Lovato reacted on social media at the time by “liking” the post.
The couple has been coy about their wedding plans in interviews. Blanco told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in March that the pair had been moving quickly and “haven’t even figured anything [out].” On the Therapuss podcast months later he said they had not had time to plan but expected to sit down over the summer to decide details.
Lovato and Gomez have a long history. The actresses first met in 2002 while working on Barney & Friends and remained close through their Disney years, when Gomez starred on Wizards of Waverly Place and Lovato appeared on Sonny With a Chance. Their friendship fractured in the late 2010s; Lovato said in a 2020 Harper’s Bazaar interview that she was “not friends” with Gomez, while also emphasizing that growing up together meant “you’re always going to have love for them.”
Gomez has remained close with fellow pop star Taylor Swift, who joked on Instagram last year that she would be the flower girl at Gomez’s wedding to Blanco. The couple’s collaboration and engagement have drawn attention from longtime friends and fans alike.
Lovato married musician Jutes in May 2025. The couple got engaged in December 2023; Lovato shared images of the proposal on Instagram and wrote that every day with her partner had been “a dream come true.”
On television and social media, Lovato framed her comments about Gomez in conciliatory terms, praising the music and offering well-wishes despite their past distance. Gomez and Blanco have continued to release music together while navigating public interest in their personal relationship and potential wedding plans.
