Davina McCall is reportedly engaged to her long-time friend-turned-partner, celebrity hairstylist Michael Douglas, a friend told The Sun and was reported by the Daily Mail on Friday.
The friend said McCall, 57, has a ring but is only wearing it in private and had kept the engagement secret so that family and close friends learned the news first. An ITV source told the paper McCall had not informed her employers before sharing the news with loved ones.
McCall and Douglas were friends for years before becoming romantically involved after she finalised her divorce from Matthew Robertson in April 2018, according to published accounts. The pair went public with their relationship in 2018, and by January 2023 Douglas had moved into McCall's home, the reports say.
The engagement reports come weeks after McCall told The Mirror she did not plan to marry again. "We go on honeymoons all the time but without getting married. We're in the honeymoon period even after all these years. I couldn't be more happy," she said in that interview, and added she saw no reason to change the relationship's form. The Mirror piece also quoted McCall reflecting on a lesson from her late father that every successful relationship needs "friendship, attraction, trust and respect."
McCall's public career spans almost three decades. She received the Special Recognition prize at last year's National Television Awards and was met with a standing ovation at London's O2 Arena as colleagues paid tribute to her work. In a subsequent interview about the emotional moment, McCall said the award had been particularly meaningful because she had recently learned she would undergo surgery for a brain tumour.
McCall was married to Robertson for 17 years; the couple have three children, Holly, Chester and Tilly. She was previously married to Andrew Leggett from 1997 to 1999.
The reports identifying Douglas as McCall's partner describe him as a celebrity hairstylist who first met McCall when he styled her hair during her stint on Big Brother. Reports say the two remained close friends for years before their relationship turned romantic.
The Sun and the Daily Mail published the engagement accounts on Friday, citing a friend and an ITV source. The newspapers said McCall has not publicly announced the engagement and that she has been keeping personal details private while continuing to work on television projects.
