Davina McCall has publicly disagreed with her husband Michael Douglas's suggestion that they both plan to retire in five years. Douglas, a hairdresser, indicated a desire to "relax and enjoy all of that hard work" after their careers conclude.
"He's thinking about hanging up his scissors – I'm not hanging up the microphone," McCall stated this week, according to reports. She explained that Douglas mentioned his retirement plans while doing a client's hair, expressing a wish to stop hairdressing in five years.
Douglas had said, "We've got five years of hard work left in us. Then it's time for us to relax and enjoy all of that hard work." He added, "Davina will be about 62 and I'll be around 58. There comes a point where you think, 'When do we actually sit back and enjoy everything we've worked so hard for?'"
McCall, 58, and Douglas, 53, married in a second ceremony earlier this year at their home, following a registry wedding in December. McCall has often spoken positively about Douglas, describing him as the "love of her life" and praising his supportive nature.
The couple's wedding in December occurred shortly after McCall revealed her breast cancer diagnosis. She had detected a lump and undergone surgery for a lumpectomy, later completing a course of preventative radiotherapy.
In recent interviews, McCall has indicated a shift in her work approach following significant health events. She underwent surgery for a brain tumor in 2024, followed by her breast cancer diagnosis. These experiences have prompted her to re-evaluate her career and reduce stress.
Speaking on the "Miss Me?" podcast, McCall described these health scares as a "wake-up call." She explained that while the brain tumor diagnosis led her to consider reducing stress, the subsequent breast cancer diagnosis solidified her decision to make significant life changes. McCall has referred to past breakthroughs in her life, including overcoming addiction in the nineties and the impact of her brain tumor surgery, but stated that her cancer diagnosis compelled her to implement these changes immediately.
