Dascha Polanco, best known for her role on Orange Is the New Black, said she will release a debut single soon and described the project as “dance world music” that will feature both her singing and rapping.

Polanco made the announcement while attending the Bronx and Banco runway show this week, telling Page Six, “I’m gonna release a single soon. It’s dance world music. I am singing and rapping.” She also praised the label’s collection for its glitz, glam and sexiness.

Designer Natalie DeBanco, the founder of Bronx and Banco, said she personally tests each garment to ensure the fits work across sizes and that the brand is committed to dressing a wide range of body types. “I try every single dress and make sure that everything fits and looks great,” DeBanco said. “I’m not a sample size, so I want to make sure every girl can wear it — not just extra small, but extra large and bigger. I just want to make sure it’s comfortable and it fits the right way. A dress can be sheer and have many cutouts, but it has to be intentional.”

DeBanco described the collection as featuring feathers, lace and fringe and said the fabric choices and stretch are intended to offer options for different body types. She also told Page Six that Bronx and Banco has expanded into handbags and plans to open new stores in Miami and the Hamptons.

The runway show drew a number of celebrities to the front row and the brand’s party. Rapper Saweetie performed at the party held at the Paradise Club at the Times Square Edition. Other attendees included Victoria Justice, Nicky Hilton and Alexandra Richards.

Polanco’s announcement adds a music project to a career that includes prominent acting credits. She rose to prominence for her portrayal of Dayanara “Daya” Diaz on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black and appeared in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s film In the Heights. The new single will mark her first known foray into releasing solo music under her own name.

Representatives for Polanco and Bronx and Banco did not immediately respond to requests for further comment. The actress did not provide a release date when speaking at the event.

Celebrities arrive at Bronx and Banco fashion show

Polanco’s move into music follows a broader trend of actors crossing into recording careers and aligns with the increasing visibility of multihyphenate entertainers in both film and popular music. Bronx and Banco’s emphasis on inclusive sizing and a growing product line reflects a concurrent shift in fashion toward broader size representation and lifestyle branding.

Further details about Polanco’s single, including collaborators, production credits and a firm release date, have not yet been released. Fans and industry observers will be watching for an official announcement in the coming weeks.
