Danny DeVito and his estranged wife Rhea Perlman continue to maintain a close relationship, speaking daily and sharing weekly meals years after their separation in 2017. DeVito, 81, shared in a recent AARP cover story that they frequently gather at Perlman's home, often with their grandchildren.
"We see the grandchildren together, that kind of stuff. So that's a good relationship," DeVito stated. He emphasized the significance of having supportive family and friends, noting, "No matter what happens in your life, the most important thing is having family and friends - reliable people in our lives who we can talk to, who we can open up to, who we can rely on to be there. I'm very fortunate."
The couple, who first met in 1971 and were married for 35 years before separating for the second time, have three adult children: Lucy, Gracie, and Jake. They also have grandchildren, Sinclair and Carmine. Perlman, 78, previously confirmed in 2023 on the Wiser Than Me podcast that they are still married and remain very good friends, prioritizing their family above all else.
Perlman acknowledged that the separation was difficult initially, with various reasons she chose not to elaborate on. However, she noted that it took time to reach their current, "pretty decent understanding and relationship." The couple's shared passion for cinema was highlighted in a March 9 Architectural Digest video featuring their eldest daughter, Lucy. DeVito recalled standing in the pouring rain in New York for hours to see "The Godfather" with Perlman.
DeVito's upcoming projects include resuming his role as Frank Reynolds in the 18th season of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," premiering August 17 on FX and Hulu. He is also set to conclude his role as Eddie in the final installment of the "Jumanji" franchise, "Jumanji: Open World," slated for release on December 25. Additionally, DeVito, alongside his son Jake and daughter Lucy, produced the heist comedy-thriller "Drag," starring Lucy, which is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on January 29, 2027.
