Danny DeVito and his estranged wife Rhea Perlman maintain a close relationship, speaking daily and sharing weekly meals with their family years after their 2017 separation. DeVito, 81, described their current dynamic as "a good relationship" in a recent AARP cover story.

"We're always over at her house," DeVito said. "We see the grandchildren together, that kind of stuff. So that's a good relationship."

He emphasized the importance of family and reliable connections. "No matter what happens in your life, the most important thing is having family and friends - reliable people in our lives who we can talk to, who we can open up to, who we can rely on to be there. I'm very fortunate."

The couple, who were married for 35 years before their second separation in 2017, first met in 1971. Perlman, 78, reportedly fell in love at first sight after seeing DeVito perform in an off-Broadway play. She moved into his Manhattan apartment two weeks later.

They went on to have three children: daughter Lucy, 43; daughter Gracie, 41; and son Jake, 38. They are also grandparents to three-year-old Sinclair and two-year-old Carmine.

Perlman confirmed in 2023 that they remained married in essence and were still very good friends who saw each other often, stressing the importance of family to both of them. She acknowledged that the separation was difficult initially but that they had found a "pretty decent understanding and relationship."

The family's shared passion for cinema was highlighted in a March 9 Architectural Digest video featuring DeVito, Perlman, and their eldest daughter Lucy. DeVito recalled standing in the rain for an hour to see "The Godfather" in New York with Perlman.

In their professional lives, DeVito is set to reprise his role as Frank Reynolds in the 18th season of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," premiering August 17 on FX and Hulu. He is also slated to conclude his role as Eddie in the fifth installment of the "Jumanji" franchise, "Jumanji: Open World," due in theaters on December 25. The film also features Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart.

DeVito, his son Jake, and daughter Lucy also produced the heist comedy-thriller "Drag," directed by Raviv Ullman and Greg Yagolnitzer, which is set to be released in US theaters on January 29, 2027. Lucy also stars in the film.
