Blur frontman Damon Albarn, 58, was seen with his girlfriend Rebecca Freckleton during a stroll in London's Notting Hill this week. The pair appeared affectionate as they ran errands together, fueling reports that their relationship is moving to the next level. Albarn and Freckleton, a long-time Gorillaz collaborator, are said to have been dating for nearly a year.
Sources suggest Albarn and Freckleton have moved in together. "Damon and Rebecca are in love and their friends couldn’t be happier for them," a source told The Sun. "After his split from Suzi in 2022, Damon took some time to find himself again. It was a few years later he started to grow closer to Rebecca. They’ve been seeing each other for almost a year now. He’s got a place in London and she’s there all the time with him."
Freckleton, who has worked with Albarn on his virtual band Gorillaz, was seen wearing a ring on her engagement finger. The couple's public appearance comes four years after Albarn's split from his partner of 25 years, Suzi Winstanley. Their relationship reportedly ended at the close of 2022, with the news surfacing the following year.
Albarn and Winstanley, who share a daughter, Missy, born in 1999, had been together since 1998. Reports indicated that Winstanley ended the relationship after struggling with Albarn's travel schedule and his preference for spending time at their Devon home, which he had converted into a recording studio. Friends of Winstanley described her as heartbroken by the breakup.
Albarn had previously stated that he and Winstanley did not believe in marriage, having begun their relationship following Albarn's separation from Justine Frischmann of Elastica. His latest album, "The Ballad of Darren," is understood to explore themes related to the end of his long-term relationship with Winstanley. Songs on the album feature lyrics that seem to address their romance and its dissolution.
