Daisy Edgar-Jones Reflects on Fame's Positive Impact and Initial Fears Over 'Fresh'

Daisy Edgar-Jones, known for her breakout role in "Normal People," has shared her perspective on the impact of fame, stating that it has so far only affected her "positively." The 28-year-old British actress, who is preparing for the release of the new adaptation of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility," told Vogue Spain that she is "grateful" that her career trajectory hasn't been detrimental and that colleagues have noted she hasn't changed.

"Normal People" premiered when Edgar-Jones was 22, and she feels she has grown significantly in the intervening years. "I've learned so much," she said, attributing her ability to navigate the profession, which initially seemed intimidating, to "a lot of mindfulness."

Edgar-Jones's upcoming project, "Sense and Sensibility," sees her starring opposite Esmé Creed-Miles, who plays her younger sister Marianne Dashwood. The pair first worked together a decade ago, and Edgar-Jones noted that their shared history and the fact that Creed-Miles remembers her from an earlier time have been beneficial. "It was wonderful to hear that [she felt I hadn't changed]," Edgar-Jones said, emphasizing the importance of people in her life who understand her entire context.

After her work with Sally Rooney, whom she described as the "Jane Austen of the modern era," Edgar-Jones took on the horror film "Fresh" with Sebastian Stan. She recalled that this was the first film she shot immediately after "Normal People" and considered it her "first real film."

Despite her current positive outlook, Edgar-Jones admitted to harboring fears during the filming of "Fresh." "It's a horror film, but not one to be taken too seriously," she explained, noting that the director's visual approach made it stand out. "Although, to be honest, while we were filming I did wonder if it could be the end of my entire career."

Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles recently attended the "Sense and Sensibility" premiere in Leicester Square. The film, based on Jane Austen's novel, follows the story of two sisters navigating love and societal expectations in 18th-century Britain. Edgar-Jones portrayed Elinor Dashwood, the elder sister, described as being guided by her practical "head," while Marianne is driven by her passionate "heart."

The adaptation captures romance, humor, and scenic landscapes. The trailer depicts the Dashwood sisters and their mother being forced to leave their estate and move to a modest cottage, experiencing life on the fringes of society and encountering new suitors. "Sense and Sensibility" is set for release in the UK on September 25, with its London premiere on Tuesday, September 15. The actresses reunited for the project after first working together as teenagers on the 2018 film "Pond Life."
