Singer and model Cruz Beckham, 21, has released his debut EP, "Wear & Tear," featuring songs that reference his famous family members, including a track that appears to allude to a rift with his older brother, Brooklyn.
The EP, released Friday by Cruz and his band The Breakers, aims to capture "a life lived" with its highs and lows. "We've been high, and low, in love and in pain, jealous, upset - we've lived and learned," Cruz stated about the EP's themes.
The title track, "WANNABE," is a clear homage to his mother Victoria Beckham and the Spice Girls' debut single. However, other songs touch on more complex family dynamics.
"Seeing Red," one of the EP's six songs, features lyrics that hint at a fallout with his brother Brooklyn. Cruz described the song as a "comedic take on a totally unserious moment of frustration," often seen in competitive situations. The accompanying music video appears to reference his father David's football career, showing players, including Cruz, getting into a scuffle.
Another track, "Loneliest Boy," also seems to address the estrangement from Brooklyn. Lyrics such as "breaking mama's heart" and verses about pushing friends away and not showing love have led to speculation among fans that they are inspired by Brooklyn's ongoing distance from the family. This follows reports that Brooklyn blocked his parents on Instagram and that legal representatives have been involved in communication.
Brooklyn Beckham has publicly distanced himself from his family, reportedly after feeling his parents included him in a Father's Day post against his wishes. A source claimed Brooklyn was "furious" and wanted to be left alone. In January, he released a statement denouncing his parents and cutting ties with "Brand Beckham," accusing them of controlling him and driving a wedge between him and his wife, Nicola Peltz.
The EP's release coincides with Cruz's European summer holiday with his family, where his girlfriend, Jackie Apostel, has been sharing photos from their getaway. Apostel posted images of herself in swimwear, posing with lemons, and included a loved-up snap with Cruz on the family yacht.
