Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez have married in a private civil ceremony at their home in Portugal. The couple exchanged vows on Tuesday, marking the tenth anniversary of the day they first met when Rodríguez worked as a shop assistant at a Gucci store in Madrid.
Rodríguez explained to Vogue that the intimate ceremony took place in their living room, the same space where the family shares meals. "In 30 years' time I want the children to think, Something wonderful happened at this table – the wedding vows of our parents," she stated. She added that while she once dreamed of a grand castle and carriage, her desire now is for an intimate celebration at home with her partner and children. The couple has indicated plans for a larger wedding celebration with extended family and friends in the future.
Both Ronaldo and Rodríguez chose to wear Gucci, a nod to how they met. Rodríguez wore a sheer white shirt and skirt with satin shoes and diamond jewelry, while Ronaldo donned a custom light beige cotton suit with a T-shirt and loafers. Their children were dressed in matching outfits.
Following the ceremony at their residence, the couple traveled to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima for a blessing from a priest. They have since returned to Saudi Arabia, where Ronaldo plays football, and will not be taking a honeymoon.
The couple are parents to daughters Alana and Bella, and welcomed twins Eva Maria and Mateo via surrogacy. Their son Angel passed away shortly after birth. Ronaldo also has a son, Cristiano Jr., from a previous relationship.
Ronaldo announced their marriage on Instagram by sharing a photo of their wedding bands with the caption "C❤️G." A representative for Ronaldo confirmed the union, stating it was a private and intimate moment attended by their five children.
Reports suggest that Ronaldo's mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his siblings were not present at the ceremony and learned of the marriage just moments before it occurred. Portuguese television presenter Cristina Ferreira commented that the family's absence might cause issues, suggesting they may have been informed only moments before the ceremony. Dolores Aveiro has since posted a heart emoticon on Ronaldo's social media, and his sister Katia also shared a similar sentiment online. Rodríguez's sister Ivana and a close friend were among the witnesses.
Despite tying the knot after a decade-long relationship, the couple has opted to keep their pre-nuptial assets separate. They signed a pre-nuptial agreement on August 10 to define their property regime, a day before their wedding ceremony.
