Craig Revel Horwood, a judge on the popular BBC series "Strictly Come Dancing," has shared a disturbing account of being attacked and robbed in Madrid in 1988. During the incident, Revel Horwood was reportedly stabbed and slashed with a razor blade, and his jewelry was stolen.
Revelations surfaced during an appearance on the "Judgemental" podcast with fellow "Strictly" judge Anton Du Beke. Revel Horwood was in Madrid during a break from performing in "Panache" at the Lido de Paris when the attack occurred. He described the intense heat and the violent nature of the mugging, during which his necklace was ripped from his neck, leaving a burn mark.
Following the assault, Revel Horwood returned to work in France. His appearance, marked by the stabbing and subsequent lack of shaving, led to him being strip-searched by French authorities who suspected him of carrying drugs. He recounted being searched down to his bare essentials as officials looked for contraband.
This incident is not the only dramatic travel experience Revel Horwood has shared. He also recounted arriving in Mombasa, Kenya, for a pre-paid holiday, only to discover that his hotel had burned down. The news was not communicated to the guests until their arrival at the location.
The judge's candid account follows a recent tribute he paid to former "Strictly" contestant Ann Widdecombe, who was reportedly murdered in her home. Revel Horwood described Widdecombe's death as "undeniably cruel" and reflected on their professional relationship, stating that despite political differences, he grew to admire and care for her deeply, remembering her as "warm, wickedly funny, deeply intelligent, and a genuinely joyous presence."
