Courteney Cox and Snow Patrol musician Johnny McDaid have separated after more than a decade together, The Mail on Sunday reports. The couple, who were briefly engaged, are understood to have ended their relationship late last year.
A friend of the couple told the publication that the split was amicable and that they had reached a point where they were living "different lives." Cox, 62, is based in Los Angeles, while McDaid, 49, has primarily resided in London, though they divided their time between the U.S. and the U.K.
"Johnny speaks incredibly highly of Courteney," a friend stated. "They had a very deep relationship and they remain extremely amicable. They are great friends and care about each other very much."
Cox and McDaid began dating in 2013 after being introduced by mutual friends, including Ed Sheeran. McDaid is a frequent collaborator of Sheeran's, co-writing hits such as "Shape of You" and "Photograph."
The couple announced their engagement in 2014. They experienced a brief separation in late 2015 before reconciling in 2016.
Cox has previously described being thankful for their brief breakup in 2015, saying it improved their relationship, while McDaid called himself "lucky" to be with the actress.
The pair were last seen publicly in August on a double date with Jennifer Aniston and her rumored partner Jim Curtis in Malibu. Their last photographed appearance together was at the U.S. Open in September.
Since their separation, both Cox and McDaid are reportedly moving forward. McDaid is said to be in the early stages of a new relationship.
Cox was recently seen in New York with her "Shining Vale" co-star Greg Kinnear. The pair, who play husband and wife in the series, have confirmed they are just friends. Cox also remains close to her ex-husband David Arquette, with whom she shares a daughter, Coco.
McDaid joined Snow Patrol in 2011 and has collaborated with artists including Pink, Robbie Williams, and Alicia Keys. Snow Patrol is currently on a summer tour in the UK.
Representatives for Cox and McDaid did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
