Two climbers, identified by the New York Police Department as Angela Nikolau and Ivan Kuznetsov, were apprehended Wednesday after ascending the Empire State Building. The pair, who were seen at the summit holding a flag that read, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace,” were later arrested.
Nikolau, also known as Ivan Beerkus, shared images of the engagement stunt on Instagram. The couple appeared in court Thursday and were released under supervision, facing charges including reckless endangerment and burglary. Their next court date is scheduled for August 24.
Nikolau and Kuznetsov are the subjects of the documentary "Skywalkers: A Love Story," which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Festival. The film chronicles their ambition to scale tall skyscrapers and their willingness to embrace risk for the thrill of climbing.
"Skywalkers: A Love Story" is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
