Country music's rising star Bailey Zimmerman has addressed pending criminal charges stemming from extensive damage to a hotel room during his recent tour. The charges, which included a fourth-degree felony for criminal damage to property over $1,000 and a misdemeanor for falsely obtaining services, were ultimately dropped after Zimmerman paid full restitution to the hotel.
An arrest warrant was issued on June 18 for the 26-year-old Illinois-born singer. Four days later, Zimmerman filed a demand for a speedy trial. Law enforcement reports indicate Zimmerman caused significant damage to his hotel room at the Sandia Resort & Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This included breaking a phone, piercing a hole in the wall, and leaving an unpaid tab for alcohol. He was also accused of hurling cymbals, flinging microphones to the floor, and tipping over part of a drum set during a sound check.
In a statement released on Tuesday, June 23, Zimmerman apologized to his fans and the hotel staff. "I never meant for any of this to come across as disrespectful," he stated, issuing a public apology for "drunkenly trashing" his hotel room. "I am deeply sorry for my actions that transpired." He expressed respect for the community and hospitality, taking "full accountability" and regretting any hurt or disrespect caused. Zimmerman told fans they "deserved better" and that he was "reflecting on the disappointment and concern" he caused. He committed to "doing the work necessary to learn and grow."
An insider told the Daily Mail that the incident was triggered by "heartbreak" following a split from his girlfriend. The source described Zimmerman as being in a "fragile state" and experiencing a "mental breakdown," attributing it partly to the pressures of his rapid ascent in country music. "He didn’t eat and had a ton of tequila and was going through heartbreak," the insider said. The source also noted that while Zimmerman does not currently have a drinking problem, he had not handled the situation appropriately. The pressures of a relentless touring schedule and being thrust into the spotlight without years of private industry experience were also cited as contributing factors.
This is not the first public apology for Zimmerman. In January 2025, he apologized after performing while intoxicated at the Crash My Playa music festival in Riviera Maya, which he later stated had been a life-changing experience that led to increased focus. However, the recent incident suggests ongoing challenges.
