Colin Farrell made a rare public appearance with his youngest son, Henry, as the pair arrived at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The Irish actor, 45, is among the nominees this year for outstanding lead actor for his performance in HBO’s DC series The Penguin. Farrell, who earlier this year won a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by a male actor for the same role, attended the ceremony with Henry, 15, whom he shares with Ondine co-star Alicja Bachleda-Curuś. Farrell wore a black-and-white velvet tuxedo while his son chose an all-black outfit for the red carpet.

Farrell also has an older son, James, with former partner Kim Bordenave. His relationship with Bachleda-Curuś, Henry’s mother, dated from around late 2008 to early 2010.

The 2025 ceremony highlighted a strong contingent of British and Irish talent. Netflix’s Adolescence led contenders with 13 nominations and has propelled its young lead, Owen Cooper, into a potential history-making position: if Cooper wins outstanding supporting actor, he would become the youngest male acting winner in Emmy history. The current record-holder is Scott Jacoby, who won at 16 in 1973 for That Certain Summer.

Adolescence also secured nominations for co-stars Erin Doherty and Stephen Graham. Doherty is nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for her role as a child psychologist in the series. Graham, who co-created and co-wrote Adolescence in addition to acting in it, received nominations in both acting and writing categories. Ashley Walters, who appears in Adolescence as DI Luke Bascombe, earned his first Emmy nomination in the supporting actor category and will compete against Cooper.

Aimee Lou Wood, nominated for supporting actress in a drama series for The White Lotus, is among other British nominees. In a recent interview with British GQ, Wood said the show's creator, Mike White, had advocated for her casting and described her own struggles with imposter syndrome; she has said the endorsement initially intensified her insecurities rather than alleviating them.

The Emmys drew a cross-section of established performers and emergent stars from the U.K. and Ireland. Farrell’s red-carpet appearance with his son was one of several family moments noted on the night, underscoring the awards’ blend of personal milestones and industry recognition.

Winners were expected to be announced as part of the televised ceremony in Los Angeles. Farrell and his fellow nominees gathered amid heightened attention on limited-series and streaming productions that dominated the awards conversation this season.
