Organizers of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Monday night unveiled the lineup for the 2026 edition, naming Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber and Karol G as headliners for the two-weekend event scheduled for April 10–12 and April 17–19 in Indio, California. The announcement prompted an immediate and polarized response online, with some festivalgoers praising the bookings and others calling the roster one of the weakest in the festival’s history.

The announced bill spans a wide range of genres and generations, including electronic artist Anyma, Young Thug, The xx, hardcore-leaning Turnstile, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, FKA twigs, social media star-turned-performer Addison Rae, and alt-pop singer Ethel Cain. Legacy acts Iggy Pop, Moby and Devo are also on the roster. Radiohead was listed under a cryptic note referencing “The Bunker Debut of Kid A Mnesia,” rather than a standard billing.

Reaction on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, ranged from excitement to sharp criticism. "This is quite literally the worst Coachella lineup I've ever seen and I've been going for a decade," one user wrote. Other posts called the list "garbage" and questioned whether the festival’s taste had declined, while another compared the set of acts to "someone leaving their iPhone on shuffle at a college party and calling it a festival." Several users said they did not recognize the majority of listed acts.

Supporters of the lineup were vocal as well. Fans of Bieber celebrated the announcement as a long-awaited milestone: while the pop star has made surprise appearances at past Coachella sets for artists such as Ariana Grande, Chance the Rapper and Wizkid, organizers said this will be his first full headlining set at the festival. Bieber’s return to the live stage would be his first full concert in more than three years; his last scheduled touring activity was canceled midway through after he developed Ramsay Hunt syndrome and called off the 49-date Justice World Tour.

Sabrina Carpenter’s headlining slot drew attention in part because the singer had told last year’s Coachella audience, "Coachella, see you back here when I headline!" before leaving the stage. Fans noted her prediction came to fruition. Karol G will return to the festival circuit after making her Coachella debut in 2022; her 2026 appearance will follow the June release of her new album, Tropicoqueta.

Media reactions included enthusiastic social posts. MTV wrote on X that the booking of Bieber prompted an emotional response among some fans, while other posts celebrated the pairing of Carpenter and Bieber on the bill. The eclectic nature of the roster — spanning mainstream pop, Latin music, electronic acts and legacy artists — reflects Coachella’s long-running practice of mixing contemporary chart-toppers with more niche performers and veteran acts.

Weekend passes for the two-weekend festival were listed at prices ranging from $549 to $1,299 and are scheduled to go on sale Friday at 1 p.m. ET. Coachella, which takes place annually in Indio, has often generated debate over lineups as it balances commercial headliners with curatorial choices intended to appeal to a diverse, global audience.

Last year’s headliners included Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator and Doja Cat, and the festival has a history of surprise bookings and late additions. This year’s announcement will set the promotional cycle in motion for more detailed scheduling, set times and potential guest appearances. Organizers did not immediately release a full day-by-day schedule with the initial lineup announcement.

Ticket sales will test the breadth of enthusiasm for the roster amid the mixed reception on social media. As with previous years, additional programming, art installations and surprise collaborations could alter public perception of the lineup as more details emerge and performances approach.
