The funeral for influential record executive Clive Davis will be held Monday, with the service being livestreamed for the public. Davis, who died June 22 at the age of 94 in his Manhattan apartment, was a pivotal figure in the music industry for over 50 years.
He was known for launching the careers of numerous artists, including Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, and Kenny G. Davis also influenced established musicians such as Santana, Janis Joplin, and the Grateful Dead. His career spanned more than five decades, during which he rose from a record company lawyer to become one of music's most powerful executives.
Davis' memorial service is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT. While details about attendees and performers have not yet been released, the event is expected to draw many stars from the music world. Davis was also famous for his annual pre-Grammy Awards gala, which attracted prominent musicians the night before the awards ceremony.
At this year's gala, former President Barack Obama recognized Davis for his significant contributions to music. Despite shifts in the industry, Davis maintained and even grew his influence, revitalizing the careers of artists like Aretha Franklin and Carlos Santana, and fostering the early careers of "American Idol" winners such as Kelly Clarkson.
Davis died a few weeks after being hospitalized for an upper respiratory issue. He is survived by his four children—Fred, Doug, Mitchell, and Lauren—eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
