Supermodel Cindy Crawford, 60, has shared her perspective on the frequent comparisons between herself and her model-turned-actress daughter, Kaia Gerber. Crawford stated she is unfazed by the similarities, noting that while the resemblance is striking, she embraces the commentary. "It doesn't annoy me at all. I love it, but I don't know what it's like to have a famous parent," Crawford said in an interview with PORTER magazine. "I think, for Kaia, it's just a part of who she is, and she's going to have to handle it." She acknowledged that while there are benefits, there are also drawbacks for her daughter, adding, "I'm sure at times it sucks."
Crawford, who shares Kaia and son Presley with her husband Rande Gerber, also expressed gratitude for the opportunities to work with her daughter on various fashion projects. She highlighted shared experiences, such as walking in the Versace show in 2017, as special moments where they were present for their own reasons, not solely as mother and daughter. "I love whenever I get to work with Kaia. It's really fun," she stated.
Redefining Marriage and Empty Nesting
Beyond her reflections on her daughter, Crawford opened up about navigating the phase of being an empty nester and how it has prompted her and Rande to redefine their 28-year marriage. "When you get married, you talk about what kind of family you want or where we’re going to live. But no one ever talks about what this phase looks like, empty nesting, because it’s so far away you can’t even imagine it," she explained.
She views this period as an opportunity for introspection and joint decision-making. "It’s an opportunity for us to redefine our relationship. What do we want to do, do we want to travel, do we not want to travel? We haven’t answered those questions yet but we’re asking the questions – and it’s fun trying to figure that out together," Crawford said. The couple resides at Gerber Point Lodge, a seven-acre property in Ontario, Canada, which they describe as an "unplugged" retreat where they engage in activities like dockside workouts and sauna sessions.
