Supermodel Christy Turlington, 57, is drawing admiration from fans for embracing her natural gray hair in recent photographs. The images, shared to Instagram by famed photographer Arthur Elgort, show Turlington with her gray hair pulled back in a bun. Elgort, who has known Turlington for decades and featured her in his 1993 book "Arthur Elgort's Models Manual," captioned the post: “A wonderful visit with @cturlington ❤️ Always so great to reminisce about our trips!”
Social media users responded positively to the photos, with many calling the model "ageless." Fashion designer Donna Karan also commented on the post, reminiscing about shared memories.
In May, Turlington was seen with dark brown hair at a red carpet event alongside her husband, actor and filmmaker Ed Burns, to whom she has been married since 2003. At that appearance, her roots appeared to be showing hints of gray. Turlington and Burns have two children, Grace, 22, and Finn, 20.
Turlington, who was discovered at age 14, rose to prominence as one of the most successful models of the 1990s. She appeared on over 500 magazine covers globally and secured lucrative contracts with major brands such as Calvin Klein, Chanel, and Versace. In 1991, she signed an $800,000 deal with Maybelline for 12 days of work.
Turlington has often expressed a preference for a "less is more" approach to beauty, telling Harper's Bazaar in 2020, “I've always been more of a 'less is more' kind of person.”
Her embrace of her natural hair color aligns with a broader trend in the fashion industry, which has increasingly featured older models in high-profile campaigns to target midlife consumers. Actresses and models like Claudia Schiffer, 56, and Kate Moss, 52, have also recently been featured prominently in fashion campaigns.
