Christy Knowings, a cast member on the popular Nickelodeon sketch comedy series "All That," died Tuesday at age 46. Her death followed an asthma attack that led to brain damage and her placement on life support.
Kenan Thompson, who starred alongside Knowings on "All That" from 1997 to 1999, expressed his grief on Instagram, calling her "Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!! Sending so much love to her family!! She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here!!! Gonna miss you buddy!!!"
Kel Mitchell, another "All That" alum and Thompson's co-star on "Kenan & Kel," remembered Knowings as "so naturally funny, incredibly talented, and fearless." He added, "Christy was truly one of a kind. So naturally funny, incredibly talented, and fearless when it came to comedy. She had a gift for creating characters that were big, memorable, and completely her own."
Micheal, who played Dexter on the sketch show, stated, "I'll always be grateful for the laughs, the memories, and the time we shared as part of the All That family. Christy, thank you for sharing your incredible gift with all of us. Your talent, your characters, and the joy you brought to so many will never be forgotten."
Knowings was hospitalized on Aug. 7 after experiencing an asthma attack, which resulted in brain damage. She remained on life support until her family made the decision to remove her from it on Tuesday.
The Bronx-born actress was a regular on "All That" for three seasons, appearing with a cast that included Thompson, Mitchell, Amanda Bynes, and Nick Cannon. The series, which aired from 1997 to 2000, launched several successful spinoffs.
Knowings reflected in past interviews on the impact of the show's diverse cast, noting how she and Thompson brought cultural nuances that enhanced the sketches. "The diversity in the cast made a huge difference because there were things that the writers just couldn’t write in … little nuances that they were not aware of, especially from myself and Kenan," she told Bustle in 2019. "We would bring cultural nuances and it was celebrated."
Her recurring "Whatever" catchphrase with Amanda Bynes was a memorable part of her "All That" tenure. Beyond the sketch show, Knowings appeared in the 2009 film "Mother and Child" and had a writing credit for it. She also made guest appearances on "Sesame Street" between 2008 and 2011 with her twin brother, Chris, and released a song titled "To the World" in 2020.
Knowings is the second former "All That" cast member to die in the past year. Kianna Underwood, who was also on the show, passed away in January at 33 after being involved in a hit-and-run incident.
