Christy Knowings, an actress known for her role on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series "All That," has died at the age of 46. Her passing occurred on Tuesday evening at a Los Angeles-based hospital after she was placed on life support the previous Friday due to an asthma attack that resulted in brain damage.
Knowings was a cast member on "All That" for three seasons, from 1997 to 2000, portraying characters such as Penny Lane and Jessica in the "Whateverrr!!!" sketch alongside Amanda Bynes. She also made appearances in three episodes of "Sesame Street" with her twin brother, Chris Knowings.
Her representative stated, "Christy was a multi-talented lady. Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work."
Fellow "All That" alum Kenan Thompson, 48, paid tribute to Knowings on Instagram, writing, "Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!! Sending so much love to her family!! She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here!!! Gonna miss you buddy!!! Show @christyknowings some love y’all!!!"
In a 2019 interview, Knowings recalled her time on "All That," highlighting her character Gloria Bankhead, an over-the-top Martha Stewart, as her favorite. She described the character as an "over-the-top Martha Stewart" and enjoyed embodying her, even off-camera.
Knowings' death follows that of her "All That" co-star Kianna Underwood, who died in January at age 33 following a hit-and-run collision in Brooklyn. Underwood had appeared in seven episodes of "All That" in 2004 and 2005, taking over from Jamie Lynn Spears in the show's final season.
Beyond "All That," Knowings appeared in the film "The 24 Hour Woman" and voiced a character in the animated movie "Santa Baby!" She also toured with the musical "Hairspray."
