Chris Rock has stated that his obsession with pornography played a role in the dissolution of his 18-year marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock. In a recent interview with GQ, the comedian admitted, "I was not a great husband." He further confessed, "I watched a lot of porn. I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years."
Rock, 61, also reflected on other failings during his marriage, including not being kind, not listening, and cheating with three women. "It’s not anything I’m proud of, but it’s something I had to go through," he told GQ. He drew a parallel between his past actions and a Marvel Universe character who must "test his powers," initially acting as an "a–hole" before helping others.
Rock and Compton-Rock married in 1996 and had two daughters, Lola, 24, and Zahra, 22, before announcing their separation in 2014. Compton-Rock released a statement at the time, saying, "After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways." The divorce was finalized in 2016.
Following their divorce, Rock dated actress Megalyn Echikunwoke from 2016 to 2020. He was also reportedly linked to Carmen Ejogo in 2020 and Lake Bell in 2022. He is currently dating Simone Henault, with whom he was first linked in March.
