Chris Kattan is set to return to the horror genre with the upcoming independent feature film "Trash Queen." This marks the former Saturday Night Live star's first foray into horror since his role in the 1999 cult classic "House on Haunted Hill."
The film will feature an ensemble cast including Matty Cardarople, known for "Stranger Things" and "Fallout," as well as Lynn Lowry of "The Crazies" and "Shivers." Jonathan Stoddard, Kevin Keppy, Emily Tullock, and Bonne-Vejou Dorrell are also attached to the project.
While specific plot details for "Trash Queen" are being kept under wraps, the film is described as a female-led horror-comedy. Kattan's specific role in the movie has not yet been revealed.
Gabrielle Rosson is directing "Trash Queen" from a screenplay she co-wrote with Emily Tullock. Production is scheduled to utilize practical effects and is slated for an October shoot. Joan of Art LLC and Trash Queen LLC are producing the film.
Kattan, who gained widespread recognition during his tenure on "Saturday Night Live" from 1996 to 2003, expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the genre. "I’m really excited to be stepping back into the horror genre," Kattan stated. "'House on Haunted Hill' has remained such a special film for me, and horror fans have always been incredibly loyal. 'Trash Queen' has a fun, twisted energy that immediately drew me in, and I can’t wait for audiences to see what we’ve been cooking up."
Beyond his work on SNL, where he created characters like Mr. Peepers and Mango, Kattan has starred in comedies such as "A Night at the Roxbury," "Corky Romano," and "Monkeybone." His filmography also includes appearances in "Undercover Brother," "Hotel Transylvania 2," and "The Ridiculous 6."
With "Trash Queen," Kattan revisits a genre that contributed to his early appeal among horror enthusiasts, more than two decades after "House on Haunted Hill" solidified its cult status.
