Chris Hemsworth said he eats as many as eight to ten meals a day and consumes around 4,000 calories while training to reprise his role as Thor, describing a gruelling diet-and-workout schedule ahead of the 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday.

In interviews with The Mirror and the fitness app Centr, the 42-year-old Australian actor said his intake while bulking for the Marvel role requires “a decent meal every two hours” and that the calories are “obviously good stuff — not pizza & cheeseburgers.” His stunt double, Bobby Holland Hanton, has previously said Hemsworth will sometimes train “two or three times a day” when preparing for the part.

Hemsworth described the eating pattern as part of a disciplined regimen intended to build and maintain the physique associated with the Norse god he has portrayed across multiple Marvel films. He told Centr that he typically reaches about 4,000 calories a day during intensive training periods and emphasized that the meals are structured rather than indulgent.

The actor has balanced the intense preparation with family time this year. After spending parts of the European summer apart from his wife, Elsa Pataky, Hemsworth marked his 42nd birthday in Ibiza with a group of friends and colleagues that included brothers Liam and Luke Hemsworth, actor Matt Damon, singer Rita Ora, director Taika Waititi and model Pia Whitesell. Pataky remained in Australia during that period; she later posted a birthday tribute on social media.

Earlier this year Pataky spent time in Spain filming a television series, while Hemsworth made public appearances in Europe and undertook training and shoots abroad. The couple reunited in July, appearing together with their twin sons, Tristan and Sasha, 11, in London for the launch of Hemsworth’s National Geographic series Limitless: Live Better Now.

Hemsworth and Pataky were married during the 2010 Christmas holidays and in recent years have lived in Byron Bay after relocating from Los Angeles nearly a decade ago. The actor’s comments about his diet and training regimen come as studios and fans anticipate Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release in 2026 and will bring together multiple characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Medical and fitness experts note that heightened caloric intake and increased training frequency are typical components of actors’ preparations for physically demanding roles, and that such regimes are usually supervised by nutritionists, trainers and medical professionals. Hemsworth has frequently worked with longtime trainers and with Centr, his wellness app, on nutrition and exercise programs tailored to role-specific goals.

Hemsworth’s description of his routine continues a pattern of public disclosures about the physical demands of blockbuster filmmaking, underscoring the mix of diet, strength training and recovery that performers often adopt to meet the visual expectations of franchise cinema.
