Cher has responded to Michael Douglas' assertion that Glenn Close should have won the Best Actress Oscar in 1988 for her role in Fatal Attraction instead of Cher, who secured the award for her performance in Moonstruck. A representative for Cher told Page Six that the singer "adores Michael Douglas."

Douglas made the remarks last week while appearing on The Graham Norton Show with Close. He described Close's portrayal of Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction as "one of the greatest performances of all time" and stated, "She should have won with Fatal Attraction." Douglas himself won the Best Actor Oscar in 1988 for his role in Wall Street.

Cher won her Best Actress Oscar over Close, Holly Hunter for Broadcast News, Sally Kirkland for Anna, and Meryl Streep for Ironweed. In Moonstruck, Cher played Loretta Castorini, a New York widow who falls for the younger brother of her fiancé, portrayed by Nicolas Cage. Cher was previously nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1983 for Silkwood, but the award went to Jessica Lange.

Douglas also recently shared advice against dating co-stars, following his confession of a past affair with Kathleen Turner during the filming of Romancing the Stone. He admitted in his memoir, One Helluva Ride, that he and Turner became involved while he was married to his first wife and Turner was dating her future husband. Douglas warned that relationships between actors and their leading ladies can lead to difficulties during filming if the pair breaks up, as they may have to perform intimate scenes together while disliking each other.
