Chef Dominick “Dom” Taylor, the winner of the inaugural season of Netflix’s cooking competition series ‘Five Star Chef,’ has died at the age of 44. The news was confirmed by his restaurant, The Good Front Room, in a statement posted to Instagram and their website.
Taylor, a British chef, gained recognition for his bold and joyful approach to Caribbean cuisine, which he infused into fine dining. His unique concept impressed the judges of ‘Five Star Chef’ in 2023, leading him to win the competition. The prize included a six-month residency at a restaurant in London’s five-star Langham hotel. This residency proved successful, earning him an extension and ultimately paving the way for him to open his own standalone restaurant, The Good Front Room, in February 2026.
"Dom was a visionary whose bold, joyful approach to celebrating the Caribbean cuisine of his childhood brought a fresh and exciting voice to London’s restaurant scene," the statement from The Good Front Room read. "His passion, talent, and generosity touched so many people, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him and experiencing his food."
Pastry chef and ‘Five Star Chef’ judge Ravneet Gill also shared her condolences, stating on Instagram, “I’m incredibly saddened to hear the news about dear Chef Dom Taylor. He was instantly captivating from the moment he stepped in front of us.”
According to the restaurant’s website, The Good Front Room will remain open to honor Taylor’s work and memory. A cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
