Charlie Hunnam and his longtime girlfriend, Morgana McNelis, made a rare joint appearance at the 2025 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, posing arm-in-arm on the red carpet and leaning into each other for photographs.
The Sons of Anarchy star, 45, wore a double-breasted Saint Laurent suit jacket with a midnight-blue silk shirt left slightly unbuttoned, while McNelis, 42, drew attention in a golden satin gown with a plunging neckline and carried a metallic clutch. Later in the evening Hunnam took the stage to present the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, which went to Cristin Milioti for her role as Sofia Falcone in HBO’s The Penguin.
The appearance was notable because Hunnam and McNelis have maintained a largely private relationship for decades. The couple has been together for more than 20 years, and Hunnam has spoken in past interviews about their life outside Hollywood. In a 2013 interview, he said, "My girlfriend and I just bought a ranch, so we are getting out of Hollywood completely," and described raising chickens, donkeys and maintaining an organic garden.
Hunnam has publicly defended McNelis on several occasions. In 2016 he posted on Facebook, "This is a girl I love very much and have spent the last eleven years of my life with and hope to spend the next sixty years," responding to online bullying aimed at her. He has also described her as a supportive presence in his career; McNelis works as a jewelry designer and, he has said, is his "biggest cheerleader."
The actor has addressed questions about marriage in past media appearances. In 2020, after recalling a youthful marriage to actress Katharine Towne at age 18 and a subsequent divorce, Hunnam told an interviewer he felt "indifferent" to the institution of marriage. He later retracted those remarks and apologized to McNelis, saying the comments were "a stupid thing to say" and that they had hurt her feelings. He added that family was important to him and that he considered himself romantic despite his earlier phrasing.
The Emmys appearance underscored the couple's continued preference for privacy even as Hunnam remains a visible presence in the entertainment industry. He has spoken previously about balancing the demands of acting and family life and about stepping away from Hollywood to prioritize a different lifestyle with McNelis on their ranch.
Their red-carpet showing at the Emmys was a rare public moment for a pair who have largely stayed out of tabloid focus, and it came on a night when Hunnam participated in the ceremony by presenting one of the evening's major acting awards.
