Charli XCX has revealed that her new song "Wink Wink" serves as a direct message to her former partners, signifying she has found her "perfect man" in her husband, George Daniel.

Speaking on a BBC episode hosted by DJ Jack Saunders while discussing her seventh album, Music, Fashion, Film, the 34-year-old singer explained the inspiration behind the track. "I think it’s actually about romantic relationships and, in the past, having maybe been a bit misunderstood by previous partners and having felt the pressure of wanting to become what they wanted me to be," she said.

She contrasted these past experiences with her current relationship. "Whereas now being with George, who I know you play football with, like he gets it and he gets me and it’s sort of you know, it’s like a different thing," Charli XCX elaborated. "And so this song, in a way, is kind of me talking to my previous partners being like 'yeah sure I’m this perfect person now wink wink' whereas in reality who is perfect, you know? No one."

Charli XCX married George Daniel, a musician with the band The 1975, in July 2025 during an intimate ceremony at Hackney Town Hall in London. A larger wedding celebration followed in Sicily in September of the same year.

Prior to her marriage to Daniel, the artist, whose full name is Charlotte Aitchison, had a seven-year on-and-off relationship with producer Huck Kwong, which ended in 2022. She was also previously linked to Mike Kerr, frontman of the band Royal Blood.

In other discussions about her album, Charli XCX mentioned her song "2007," which she described as being about the rise of TikTok creators. "The song itself is about making TikToks, because it’s like everyone can be a star from their bedroom, which is sort of what I talk about in the song and I think that’s fabulous! Like it’s so Warholian in a way," she stated.

Charli XCX also admitted that her guilty pleasure is watching the reality television show Love Island, describing it as a time when she can fully disengage from her work. "I can’t just go home and unplug and be like a different person... apart from when I’m watching Love Island I will say. Like that is my one time where I’m like 'oh, I’m actually off now', I’m not thinking about like fonts or whatever," she said.
