The cause of death for actor Bobby J. Brown, known for his role in the HBO series "The Wire," has been determined as diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation, according to records from the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Brown, 62, died on February 24 following a barn fire in Chaptico, Maryland.

Authorities reported that Brown suffered fourth-degree burns, with skin absent from his left chest, a portion of his left arm, and parts of his lower extremities. His scalp hair was singed. A toxicology report indicated that Brown had been drinking alcohol prior to his death but tested negative for other drugs. Carbon monoxide was detected in 71 percent of his blood.

The incident occurred when Brown was attempting to jump-start a Cadillac in the barn, which was 50-feet-by-100-feet, and became trapped. His daughter, Reina Brown, told People that she received the news of his death via a phone call late at night and initially struggled to believe it was real.

"My dad was an amazing human being. He was super awesome. He was a pillar in the community, and he's going to be missed by a lot of people," Reina Brown said, adding that her father had attempted to get a fire extinguisher during the blaze. His agent, Albert Bramante, described Brown as "an actor of immense talent and even greater integrity."

Born in Washington, D.C., Brown was also a five-time Golden Glove boxer before pursuing acting. He studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Brown's death marks another in a series of tragic passings connected to "The Wire" cast in recent years. This includes Michael K. Williams, who died in 2021 at age 54 from a fentanyl overdose; Lance Reddick, who passed away at 60 from natural causes; Charley Scalies, who died at 84 after a battle with Alzheimer's; James Ransone, who died by suicide at 46; and Isiah Whitlock Jr., who died at 71 following a brief illness.
