On a recent episode of TLC's "90 Day Fiancé," Catie's mother voiced significant concerns about her daughter's behavior and its potential impact on her relationship with fiancé Josh, and on others.
Catie, 26, has been experiencing difficulties in her relationship with Josh, 30, who relocated from the UK to Portland, Oregon, to be with her. A central issue highlighted this season is Catie's tendency to kiss other men, which she attributes to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). After she attempted to kiss multiple male friends at her birthday party, Josh expressed frustration with her apologies lacking substantive change.
In a clip from the episode, Catie's mother conveyed her support for Josh, stating he is "really good for her" and expressing hope for their relationship's success. She described Catie as having a lifelong character flaw of prioritizing her own needs over others'.
When Catie admitted to drinking tequila on her birthday and attempting to kiss numerous acquaintances, her mother expressed deep disappointment, noting that Catie appeared emotionless despite her apology. "I mean, you drink and your behavior gets obnoxious, and you’re going to hurt somebody someday," Catie's mother told her.
Catie's alarming response, "Like murder?," was clarified by her mother to mean spiritual, not physical, harm. The mother further elaborated on Catie's struggles, suggesting that while she doesn't want to solely blame OCD, her daughter faces internal challenges influenced by persistent intrusive thoughts. "I mean, she’s burned some relationships — a lot of relationships, several friendships — just because, she’s a lot, and people get tired of it," her mother stated.
Previously, Catie had tearfully admitted to aggressively trying to kiss friends, sometimes against their will, and acknowledged losing friends in the past for crossing boundaries. "I’m really ashamed about it and it’s hard to talk about," she reflected in an earlier episode. "I will be sad if anyone abandons me. I worry all the time that I’ll lose Josh, and I’m worried I’ll push them away by my actions."
