Author Cat Marnell is preparing to release her second novel, "The Bored and the Beautiful," which reportedly blends fact and fiction by featuring real-life New York personalities alongside fictional characters. The book is scheduled for release on February 2, 2027, from Crown Publishing.
Marnell described the novel as "half real names and people, half fictional names," and indicated that numerous New York figures will appear as themselves. Among those named are actress Julia Fox, rapper Riff Raff, former "Real Housewives of New York City" star Leah McSweeney, and influencer The Fat Jew. The novel's protagonist, Dizzy, is described as a "downtown writer with a tabloid presence," mirroring Marnell's own public persona and experiences.
"It's a period piece," Marnell stated, explaining that writing about people from her life in 2012 came naturally. "They were all part of the tapestry of downtown in 2012." The book also features "Page Six" prominently, according to Marnell. Her previous memoir, "How to Murder Your Life," was released in 2016. Marnell began her career as a beauty editor for Condé Nast's Lucky magazine and has since contributed to publications such as Vice, Self, Nylon, and Glamour.
