ITV studios were plunged into chaos Wednesday morning due to a power outage that disrupted live broadcasts of "Lorraine," "This Morning," and "Loose Women." For presenter Cat Deeley, the disruption created a personal nightmare as she was midway through a hair coloring session at the Covent Garden studios.
When the electricity and water stopped working, Deeley's hairstylist resorted to using a large water bottle to rinse the dye from her hair. The presenter erupted into laughter, joking, "I've just been waterboarded," due to the lack of power and running water. She described the morning as "interesting," noting the absence of power "anywhere."
Despite the predicament, Deeley shared a positive outlook on social media, writing, "No power. No water. The show must go on!" She added that she and her hairstylist "will continue to colour my hair in the face of adversity… we’ll just get a little creative in the process clearly!"
Viewers tuning into the daytime schedule were disappointed as the shows were taken off air. A statement from ITV confirmed that "Following a power cut overnight in the wider area where our Covent Garden studio is based, we are unable to broadcast Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women live today. We will return to our normal schedule as soon as possible."
"Good Morning Britain" hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls announced that their show would be extended to cover "Lorraine's" usual slot. "This Morning" was later replaced by a compilation of its "best bits," with an on-screen notice indicating the program was pre-recorded. "Loose Women" was also absent from the schedule.
In a separate technical issue, "Good Morning Britain" experienced difficulties during an advertising break, showing the ITV logo instead of commercials. Reid apologized to viewers for the disruption, calling the morning "a kind of rollercoaster."
