Carys Douglas, daughter of actors Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, has begun her acting career, recently making her professional debut on stage and screen. The 23-year-old recently completed a theater run in Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull," which played from June 20-27 at St. Lydia's in Brooklyn.
A viral video on Instagram captured moments from Douglas's performance, showing her delivering lines and participating in emotional scenes. The production concluded with the cast taking a bow, and Douglas was later seen signing autographs for attendees. A friend of Douglas told the Daily Mail in May that her parents are "so proud" of her accomplishments.
Social media users have commented on Douglas's performance, with many noting her vocal resemblance to her mother, Catherine Zeta-Jones. "Her voice sounds so much like her mom's!!" one user wrote, while another commented, "Classy like her mama." Others noted similarities to her father, Michael Douglas. "Oh she is good like her father wow," one user posted, adding, "I can see flashes of her dad in her eyes." Another observed, "She's the Mirror image of her dad.. straight away you know she's Douglas's daughter.."
Last year, Douglas graduated from Brown University with a degree in film and international relations. She has expressed a desire to pursue acting and the performing arts post-college. "I grew up doing theater, and I didn't study acting in school, but that's why I'm happy to be in such an informative arts space, so hopefully more of that," she told People.
Douglas previously spoke with Town & Country in 2018 about growing up with famous parents. "My parents do a really good job of reality-checking me and being like, 'Look around you. The life you have is extraordinary,'" she said. Zeta-Jones echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of manners and discipline for her children. "There's nothing worse than a privileged kid without manners. I drilled it into them like boot camp," she stated.
Zeta-Jones and Douglas, who married in 2000, also have a son, Dylan, 25. Zeta-Jones previously stated in a 2021 interview on the Today show that while she and Douglas would advise their children to consider other careers, they supported their children's passion for acting. "But their passion is about acting as a craft and they've done every theater camp... My kids went off to summer camp every year, to theater camp with all the Broadway kids, and held their own very, very well, I have to say," she shared.
Douglas's professional acting debut included the 2024 short film "F*** That Guy," followed by another short film, "Shell," in the same year. She is also slated to appear in the upcoming romantic comedy "The Problem With Poets," which is currently in post-production.
