Carrie Underwood is set to return for her 14th consecutive season as the voice of the "Sunday Night Football" opening theme. NBC announced this week that the Grammy winner will perform "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night" to launch the NFL's primetime broadcast.

The new opener will debut on September 13, preceding the Dallas Cowboys' matchup against the New York Giants.

Underwood's return has generated considerable discussion among fans. Many expressed excitement, with social media comments highlighting her long-standing association with the program. Some users suggested she should be considered for future Super Bowl halftime shows.

However, a segment of fans used the announcement to advocate for the emergence of other artists. Several commenters called for rising country singer Ella Langley to eventually take over the SNF theme song duties, with some citing a desire for a more diverse lineup.

Underwood first took over the "Sunday Night Football" opening in 2013, succeeding Faith Hill. Over more than a decade, her performance has become a recognizable element of the NFL's broadcasts.

This year's opening sequence is reported to feature a refreshed production with a more rock-inspired sound. According to NBC, the visual elements were filmed in a recording studio, a music venue, and a stadium, continuing what Underwood has described as her "rock star fever dream."
