Carolyn Murphy, the 1990s supermodel and two-time Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover star, posted a new no-makeup selfie to Instagram, prompting renewed attention to her long-running modeling career and comments she has made about aging and wellness.
The 51-year-old captioned the image, "August…lambence and luminosity," and was photographed without visible makeup. Media reports say Murphy is reportedly dating actor Will Arnett, who is 55.
Murphy rose to prominence in the 1990s, working for designers and brands including Calvin Klein and Estee Lauder, appearing on the November 1999 American Vogue millennium cover as one of the magazine's "Modern Muses," and earning VH1/Vogue's Model of the Year in 1998. She appeared on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2005 and 2006 and has shot campaigns for Missoni, Versace and Tiffany & Co.
In addition to her runway and advertising work, Murphy has occasional acting credits, including the role of Dubbie in Barry Levinson's film Liberty Heights. In 2012 she was hired to host Project Runway All Stars on Lifetime, replacing Angela Lindvall after Rosie Huntington-Whiteley withdrew from the project.
Murphy has spoken in interviews and social-media posts about her approach to aging and wellbeing. Writing on Instagram about turning 50, she said, "The catch all about getting older, and much of one’s perspective on life in general, is a lot of it is in the mind!" She added that she felt excited about the next phase of life and emphasized that there is no universal "secret" to aging, noting that different approaches work for different people.
She has discussed practical elements of her routine in past interviews, saying she uses familiar skincare products such as Cetaphil and Weleda Almond Soothing Cleansing Lotion, follows a diet that includes bone broth and vegetables, and enjoys almond butter as a snack. Murphy has also been open about prioritizing mental and emotional wellbeing, saying she commits time to "feed my soul" and follows her intuition when making decisions.
Murphy, a Florida native who lives in Los Angeles, has described a long-term commitment to wellness and surfed throughout her adult life. She has also publicly acknowledged setbacks, including the loss of her house in fires in January, and referred to the past two years as particularly intense.
Murphy was married to Jake Schroeder from 1999 to 2002; the couple have a son, Dylan Blue. She continues to appear in fashion campaigns and editorial features, including recent work for Estee Lauder, and remains a frequent subject of coverage that ties her contemporary public life to a peak-modeling era of the 1990s.
The Instagram post is the latest in a string of media moments in which established models have used social platforms to address aging, personal health and career longevity while sharing unretouched or low-makeup images with followers.
