Actress Carla Gugino has shared her experiences with unexplained phenomena, suggesting a former Los Angeles residence she frequented may have been haunted. Gugino, known for her roles in recent horror films like Netflix's "Lockbox," "Gerald's Game," and "The Fall of the House of Usher," recounted these events in a recent interview with People.

Gugino, 54, described spending time at an old Spanish-style house in Los Angeles with a boyfriend several years ago. She recalled hearing furniture moving upstairs while she and others were downstairs watching a movie. "We would all hear it and we would all be like, 'Well, there she is again, moving furniture!'" Gugino said, adding that they presumed the presence was female. Additionally, she noted that in the master bedroom, if the light was on and the door was closed, a small shadow would sometimes be seen passing by. In a more distinct incident, one of her boyfriend's roommates reportedly saw a woman on the stairs in broad daylight and mistook her for his wife, only to realize no one was there when he approached.

The group later learned from a former housekeeper that a woman who had previously lived in the house had died by suicide there. Gugino expressed that recalling the experience still gives her chills, and commented on Hollywood having many such spaces where "a lot has gone down."

While Gugino doesn't explicitly state she believes in ghosts, she indicated a willingness to accept their existence. "I don't believe in ghosts per se, but then the truth is if you asked me, do you think they existed? I would say absolutely," she told the outlet. "There are spirits that don't want to leave here where their body is. Their body's not here anymore, but they're like, 'I don't really know where to go.'"

Gugino's own encounters were not as intense as the supernatural events depicted in her latest film, "Lockbox." In the supernatural thriller, Gugino plays Ellen, a woman who moves to a rural town to cope with her mother's death and takes in her cousin, an Army veteran suffering from severe PTSD. Their lives are disrupted by a demonic entity, and Ellen must confront it to protect her cousin.

This is not the first time Gugino has experienced unusual phenomena tied to her work. While filming "The Haunting of Hill House" in Atlanta, she occupied an apartment that she felt was haunted. She initially attributed these feelings to her character's influence but later discovered the building had formerly been a police precinct with a history of arrests and difficult events. "So I was like, 'Maybe it is [haunted], actually. Maybe this wasn't just my character,'" she recalled.

Gugino's career has seen a transition from early roles as the "girl next door" to more complex characters, particularly in the horror genre. Her performances in "Gerald's Game," "The Haunting of Hill House," "The Haunting of Bly Manor," and "The Fall of the House of Usher" have cemented her status as a modern horror icon.
