LOS ANGELES — Cardi B released her long-awaited sophomore album Am I the Drama? on Friday, seven years after her landmark debut Invasion of Privacy. The project arrives with the kind of spectacle that has defined her public persona, turning the music into a form of prime-time theater designed to captivate attention from fans and critics alike.
Spanning 23 tracks, the album features collaborations with Janet Jackson, Lizzo, Selena Gomez, Megan Thee Stallion, Cash Cobain, Kehlani, Summer Walker and Tyla. Cardi threads in past hits such as Up and WAP, a move that drew complaints online from some listeners who argued the project was padded with older material. In June, she responded on X, saying the songs deserved a home and that they don’t count toward first-week sales. “This will be the last and only time I’m gonna address this…‘WAP’ and ‘Up’ are two of my biggest songs…they deserve a home.” She added, “These two songs don’t even count for first week sales so what are yall even crying about???… Now let them eat cake. Go cry about it!!!”
The release arrives amid a broader swirl of headlines that have followed Cardi B in recent months, including a pregnancy reveal that she says marks the fourth child for the star and her first with Stefon Diggs, who joined the New England Patriots this season after years as one of the NFL’s top receivers. The personal backdrop also includes a legal victory this month in a civil matter involving a security guard who alleged an incident during a doctor’s visit while Cardi B was pregnant years ago. Cardi B already shares three children with her former husband Offset — daughters Blossom (1) and Kulture (7), and son Wave (4) — while Diggs has a daughter, Nova, born in 2016.
Am I the Drama? leans into the scrutiny that has hovered over Cardi B’s career, a context the artist has acknowledged in interviews and on social media. The 23-track set pairs hard-hitting anthems with lighter, radio-friendly moments, underscoring Cardi B’s range as a performer and rapper as she navigates personal milestones publicly.
Beyond the music, Cardi B also announced plans to take the project on the road with her first arena tour, the Little Miss Drama Tour. The roughly 30-date trek is slated to begin Feb. 11 in Palm Desert, California, and will run through April, with stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Toronto before wrapping in Atlanta. The tour will give fans a chance to experience the album in a live setting as Cardi B continues to press forward amid ongoing media attention and fan anticipation for new material.
