Cardi B announced on CBS Mornings that she is pregnant with her fourth child and the first with her boyfriend, NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs, saying she feels “excited” and “happy” and is due in February.
The Grammy-winning rapper told host Gayle King she waited to make the news public until she had been able to “close some deals first.” Cardi B said she feels “very strong” and “very powerful” and joked that fans should “buy my album so I can buy Pampers and diapers.” She added that she has not yet told her parents and said she is “scared of them.”
Cardi B, who rose to fame with a string of charting singles and has won Grammy awards, already has three children with her estranged husband, rapper Offset: daughters Kulture and Blossom and son Wave. Diggs, who plays for the New England Patriots, has a daughter from a previous relationship. The couple made their relationship Instagram official in June and have appeared together at several public events.
Their relationship has drawn intermittent public scrutiny. The pair were photographed together earlier this year and made a high-profile, PDA-packed appearance at an NBA game in May. In July, reports of a split surfaced after Cardi removed Diggs from her Instagram page; the two later exchanged playful messages on social media that suggested a reconciliation. Media photos have shown the two together at events ranging from playoff games to after-parties.
Cardi B’s announcement comes amid an ongoing and often public dispute with Offset as the two navigate divorce proceedings. The rapper has publicly accused her ex of failing to contribute to their children’s expenses for a period of time, while Offset has sought spousal support and described their relationship as a closed chapter in recent interviews. Both artists have addressed aspects of their private lives on social media and in interviews, and legal filings related to the divorce have been reported in recent months.
Stefon Diggs has not issued a public statement about the pregnancy. Public-interest in the couple’s relationship and family arrangements has been heightened by social-media exchanges and appearances at sporting events and celebrity gatherings.
Cardi B said on the broadcast that she felt secure enough in her work to share the news now and emphasized support between her and Diggs. She is expected to be due in February; the couple and their representatives offered no further details on timing or plans. Fans and industry observers may expect further updates from the couple as the pregnancy progresses and as Cardi continues to promote her music and other ventures.
