Cara Delevingne has shared candid thoughts on her past struggles with self-hatred and her perception of how she is received in England, stating, "I don't think English people like me much." The model and burgeoning singer made these remarks while reflecting on her recent UK and European tour, noting that her London shows were the most challenging to sell tickets for.
Delevingne, 33, is currently preparing for the release of her album later this year. She suggested that a societal tendency in Britain to "love to see people fail" might contribute to her difficulties. "That's why I can't stop coming back and trying," she said. "It's not to prove myself. Who am I proving myself for? But maybe there is a part of me just trying to make my parents proud — and I see England as my parents, you know?"
In 2015, Delevingne left London for Los Angeles, seeking reinvention and a departure from the modeling world. She described the move as a necessity to "break free, whether from holding myself back or from how people saw me." At that time, she admitted, "I just hated myself so much and I was just so fragile. I didn't have a thick enough skin for it then — but I do now."
More recently, Delevingne has garnered attention for her latest photoshoot for Playboy, where she appeared topless and posed in lingerie. She described the experience as liberating, emphasizing her ownership of her sexuality and body. "It's so fun being naked," she stated. "I love the sense in the freedom of owning my sexuality and owning my body and I think for the first time instead of getting naked for a brand or an editorial, this felt more like my choice."
Delevingne also noted her identity as the first openly lesbian woman to feature on the print cover of Playboy. For the shoot, she donned the iconic Playboy Bunny Suit, a distinction not seen on a supermodel for the magazine since Kate Moss in 2014. The images depicted her in various poses, including lighting a cigarette and wearing lingerie, alongside classic Playboy elements like a corset and bunny ears.
She reflected on the duality of her public persona, stating, "I'm just a silly baby pretending to be a sexy lady and sometimes that's how it feels. You know, everyone has that kind of polarity and dichotomy and so kind of playing within that and still having fun while trying on this, like I'm a sexy woman because you can be all of those things."
